Buildings at RiskYHACS wants to help local societies take an active role in helping to draw attention to the buildings at risk within the Yorkshire and Humber area. We already know about the buildings that are in English Heritage's 'Heritage at Risk' Register; what we'd like to do is to supplement that list with our own survey of any buildings in the region that you consider to be at risk and which may not be receiving the attention and care they deserve. One such building is the Grimsby Ice Factory, about which there has been much local controversy - you will no doubt have other examples of your own. We'd like to know about them. They don't have to be listed buildings or in a conservation area; if they are important to your local city, town or village and you are concerned about them, please tell us about them. Once we have compiled the list we shall use it to inform our own work, to support you and to gain publicity for YHACS. By highlighting the work that is already going on by societies like yours to bring buildings at risk back into use, we can demonstrate the value of our work and show the great value of Civic Societies to their communities and of YHACS as a strong regional voice. This will mean that when we speak in support of your work we will be recognised as an important player in the protection of the Yorkshire and Humber environment. An explanatory letter and survey form has already been sent out to our member societies but if you would like to know more please contact us. We are also very pleased to say that we are now working with SAVE Britain's Heritage on this project, to find out more about them please visit their website http://www.savebritainsheritage.org/news/article.php?id=164 |
