YHACS visits Hull, City of Culture 2017

Posted on 15 August 2014 by Peter Cooper

YHACS members enjoyed a splendid weekend of events at Hull, organised by YHACS and Hull Civic Society.  On Friday 25th July members enjoyed dinner at the Ask Restaurant.  On Saturday 26th July members took part in a guided walk led by Hull Civic Society. A buffet lunch was served at Ye Olde White Harte pub prior to the main meeting at Hull History Centre.  The main meeting had three main speakers.  Andrew Dixon spoke to us about how Hull had put together its successful bid to be City of Culture in 2017.  Wayne Willis and Jamie Cartledge from yesyesBD then gave a presenation entitled Twitter Demystified.  This presentation enlivened the meeting.  Despite different schools of thought being on display, our chairman pointed out that, by using Twitter, his society had driven up the number of people attending meetings, particularly young people and in 2013 they had recruited 40 new members.

Finally, Ian Harvey of Civic Voice, spoke about local listing of buildings and environment.

Thanks go to Hull Civic Society for their help in organising a very successful weekend of events.
