YHACS visits Barnsley with a Conservation and Heritage theme

Posted on 29 May 2017 by Peter Cooper

Over 40 YHACS members visited Barnsley on April 29th 2017 where the theme was very much to do with conservation and heritage. We were welcomed by the Mayor of Barnsley, Councillor Linda Burgess, who explained how much the town had changed over the last forty years. In the 1970s the town had 30 coal mines of which there is now little evidence.

Our guest speakers included Dr John Tanner of Barnsley Metropolitan District Council Arts and Heritage Service and Craig Broadwith, Historic Places Adviser at Historic England. Our chairman, Kevin Trickett, gave a presentation entitled Conservation - Who Cares? and Paul Bedwell gave us an update from Civic Voice. For a full account of the meeting please see the minutes in the publications section.
